Vestibular Rehabilitation

Dizziness is a common problem, accounting for 20% of GP visits in the UK. Evidence has shown that vestibular rehabilitation can be effective in managing symptoms relating to a vestibular problem (inner ear or balance impairment). A specialist trained physiotherapist can carry out a comprehensive clinical assessment to identify problems relating to the vestibular disorder.

The physiotherapist will test your eye and neck movement, balance and reflexes in order to understand how the symptoms are affecting you. Where appropriate, they may perform “particle repositioning manoeuvres” for symptoms of BPPV, which has a 70%-90% success rate for treating the condition. For chronic symptoms of dizziness, vestibular rehabilitation guided by a specialist physiotherapist at our Hospital can help to enhance gaze stability, postural control (for imbalance or falls), reduce vertigo associated with triggers and improve activities of daily living.
