Respiratory Physiotherapy

These can be present in adults and children with issues developing in the nose, throat, windpipe and lungs. Some can be chronic conditions that require lifetime management while others are short-lived such as viral infections

It can also be applied for rehabilitation after abdominal surgery or intensive care admissions. Respiratory condition symptoms can include shortness of breath, fatigue, coughing, altered breathing patterns and reduced ability to perform daily tasks and work. We offer a comprehensive approach with assessment, advice and structured guidance to individually tailored plans.

Exercise regimes, such as muscle training, airway clearance techniques and a range of activities designed to stimulate and restore breathing function, have been proven as an effective treatment. These can include breathing exercises and posture to alleviate breathlessness and targeted Pilates to strengthen new movement techniques. Physiotherapy can also control and ease pain caused by breathing restrictions.

Improving overall fitness, with relevant exercises, leads to better ability to manage long-term conditions and limit their impact on life and work as well as being effective in dealing with short-term issues.Patients can be referred by their GP, consultant or respiratory specialist.
